The Richmond Art Museum sponsors a wide range of educational and outreach programs, including year round art classes, artists' workshops, the Annual Phantoscope High School Film Festival, and the popular children's exhibit Art Is… We have also developed a partnership with VSA of IndianaI to offer educational art programs for exceptional students in Wayne County.

The Richmond Art Museum offers a selection of art classes year round, starting with the Spring Sememster of 2009.  If you have been looking for art classes, look no further.  If you don't see something you are interested in this semester, check back and chances are that something next semester will catch your eye! 

Taught by experienced local and regional artists and featuring a variety of styles and media, art classes are a great way to hone your artistic skills or try something completely new!  Join the musuem as a member, and take the member rate on classes for a nice savings!  Register early and ensure your spot today!

RAM is introducing a great new program led by instructor Bess Sturgis which will allow you to schedule individual art instruction by appointment, eliminating schedule conflicts that would otherwise prevent you from being able to take art lessons! Call and make an appointment and come in to RAM with your request to learn drawing or painting from Bess!  Your choice, your time, your art at RAM!

Ceramics:  Potter's Wheel

Thursdays, January 19 - February 23, 2012 (6 Weeks)              5 - 8 PM

Instructor:  Brian Haviland

A pottery course for novice, intermediate or even the recreational ceramist, Brian Haviland will teach students all about what it takes to be successful when working with clay, including wedging, trimming, glazing and plenty of time spent throwing on the wheel! Brian focuses on teaching the mechanics of throwing properly and believes strongly that once a person has the basics down, the sky is the limit! The class will culminate in a firing at Brian's studio of student selected works that were made during the class!

 

Fees: $175 (= less than $30/ 3 hour session) / General Enrollment

Upcoming Ceramic Opportunties at RAM

All upcoming classes in ceramics will be based around the goal of providing knowleged about wheel-thrown pottery.  Potters of various skill levels will be able to take full advantage of these classes. If any of these dates look like they will fit your schedule, call and inquire about registration.

Painting: Design V. Composition and Color Value

Tuesdays, February 14, - March 20, 2012 (6 Weeks)              5:30 - 7:30 PM

Instructor:  Nancy Foureman

All Mediums Welcome!

Join the talented and experienced Nancy Foureman as she teaches painting skills with specific emphasis on the concepts of design versus composition.  Nancy will make use of traditional ideas about the division of space in paintings such as the Japanese concept notan, a design scheme which involves the placement and play of light and dark as they are arranged within an artwork. There will also be a focus on color value and how it effects each painting differently.  Nancy teaches with excitement and enthusiasm for art and engages students with theory, critique and excellent instruction!  This is an excellent painting class for everyone, so register now!

Photoshop:  Photo Editing

Tuesdays, February 7th - March 27th (8 Weeks)                      5:30 - 7:30 PM  

Instructor:  Carvin Rinehart

Do you want to learn to use Photoshop but think it’s too difficult to master?  This hands-on, step-by-step course will replace fear with fun!  You will learn how to use the most important tools to repair old photographs, make color changes and corrections, adding text, or merging separate images to make beautiful panoramic photos. 

Digital photographs are provided for weekly homework assignments for additional practice.  A digital camera is not required but a home computer with Photoshop is encouraged, along with a jumpdrive.

2012 RAM Young Artists Camps

RAM offers excellent summer camps for young artists!  Registration for our camps open March 5th.

Ages: Age 5 - 6th Grade         

Week 1:  June 25 - June 29, 2012       

Week 2:  July 30 - August 3, 2012

Instructor:  TBA

 

Full Day Session: 9 AM - 3 PM

Half Day Session:  9 AM - 12 PM OR 12 PM - 3 PM

You may sign up for half day or full day sessions; please indicate your choice on the registration form. 

Fees: (Weekly Rates for either full or half day sessions)

Full Day: $150 General Enrollment / $140 RAM Members

Half Day: $80 General Enrollment / $70 RAM Members

The Math:  Fees in RAM camps are less than $25/day or less than $5/hour for quality art instruction in a safe setting.
