The Richmond Art Museum sponsors a wide range of educational and outreach programs, including year round art classes, artists' workshops, the Annual Phantoscope High School Film Festival, and the popular children's exhibit Art Is… We have also developed a partnership with VSA of IndianaI to offer educational art programs for exceptional students in Wayne County.

The Richmond Art Museum offers a selection of art classes year round. If you have been looking for art classes, look no further. Taught by experienced local and regional artists and featuring a variety of styles and media, art classes are a great way to hone your artistic skills or try something completely new!  Join the musuem as a member, and take the member rate on classes for a nice savings!  Register early and ensure your spot today!

NOTE: REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT MUST BE RECEIVED 1 WEEK BEFORE THE START DATE OF THE CLASS IN WHICH YOU WISH TO ENROLL.

NOTE: ALL CLASSES MEET ONCE PER WEEK UNLESS OTHERWISE INFORMED BY THE TEACHER OR RAM ADMINISTRATION.

Refund Policy:

*Registrants for a class/program that is canceled for any reason by RAM will receive a full refund.

*Registrants for a class/program who request a refund 10 business days or more before the class/program start date may receive a refund (minus a $10 processing fee).

*Registrants for a class/program who request a refund fewer than 10 business days before the class/program start date will not receive a refund.

*Refunds will NOT be given to any student who cancels out of a class after the first class has met.

Engage with your little ones in child and parent art experiences!  In these 30 -45 minute sessions, you will learn about color, shape, line and other important aspects of art in a fun, child-friendly environment!  Inspiration for classes will be drawn from artists like Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso and Miro!  Watch and help your child learn and grow creatively!

Join RAM in showcasing the vitality of experience as we begin painting classes for individuals 50+!  These painting classes are for all levels of experience and participants will enjoy an atmosphere conducive to conversation, learning, and creativity!  This is about art, community and life-long learning!

Intro to Jewelry   COMPLETE


Tuesday, January 28 – March 4 (6 weeks)  5:30 – 8PM
Instructor:  Samantha Miller

This will be a course for beginners in the art of making wearable jewelry. Instructor Samantha Miller, trained at Savannah College of Art and Design, will introduce students to the exciting world of jewelry making! This project based course will involve a broad spectrum of jewelry making techniques and include four finished projects! Look forward to learning the art of beadwork and finishing strands, wirework and link making, chains and rings, and even a look at more abstract wire work! You will make and take home 4 pieces of jewelry during the course of this class. 

Supplies for this class will be furnished by RAM and are included in the cost of the class. Additional supplies such as beads, silver clasps, etc will be available for purchase should you wish to add to a certain project.

Intermediate Jewelry

Tuesday, April 22 – May 27 (6 weeks)  5:30 – 8PM
Instructor:  Samantha Miller

Description: Intermediate Jewelry will explore techniques beyond basic skills.  Students will engage in more intricate connections, explore concepts in the aesthetic of jewelry design and enjoy making and taking home beautiful projects! Painting Composition

Class held at newly opened Place 912 (IU East Gallery)

Description:  All mediums welcome. Join the talented and experienced Nancy Foureman as she teaches painting skills with specific emphasis on updating your palette, using contemporary and creative color combinations and employing effective color space usage!  Nancy teaches with excitement and enthusiasm for art and engages students with theory, critique and excellent instruction!  This is an excellent painting class for everyone, so register now!

A four-week extensive course in Photoshop for the initiated. Basics will be reviewed and advanced techniques will be covered in a question and answer format. Fundamental knowledge of Photoshop is a prerequisite. A digital camera, flash drive and a computer with Photoshop outside of class is encouraged for you to get the most out of this course.

Color, Composition and Value

This workshop will be in either oil or pastel.  Emphasis will be on how to make your paintings stronger using composition, color and value.  There will be a short demo in the morning leaving plenty of time for one on one instruction at the easel. I will try to give each individual exercises that may help your work progress.

The Art of Portraiture


Friday, May 2  10 AM – 4 PM

Location:  Room 912 (I.U. East Gallery)

In this workshop you will learn the fundamentals needed for capturing a likeness in your portrait painting. We will explore the dynamics and intricacies of drawing from a photo, discuss lighting techniques and cover the various challenges of painting from a model.

This workshop is for all levels of painters who would like to either improve their portrait painting skills, or for those beginners who would like to learn the basics of portraiture.   Supply list provided upon registration.

Young Artist Camp


Week 1: June 9 – June 13, 2014

Join us as RAM hosts young artists in an art camp that will include working with many different types of media to create artwork!  Students will engage in drawing, painting and sculpture and learn helpful techniques and projects that will give them a better understanding of how to create art!  Lunch is included in the cost of camp for both full and half day campers!  Enroll now for your regional art museum’s Young Artists Camp!  You may sign up for half day or full day sessions; please indicate your choice on the registration form. Printable forms can be found online or give us a call!

Students will explore drawing with a brush!  The focus of the class will be learning how to successfully draw landscapes and architecture with your brush rather than a pencil!

Kandinsky and Color

Wassily Kandinsky was an influential Russian painter and art theorist. He is credited with painting the first purely abstract works.  Color is important to artists who work in abstraction.  This class will focus on how the two go hand in hand to make interesting, unique artwork!
