Frank Girardin (1856-1945)

Born in Louisville, Kentucky and studied art in Cincinnati under Frank Noble and later with Frank Duveneck at the Cincinnati Art Academy. A member of the distinguished Western Society of Artists, he was also a baseball player for the early Cincinnati Reds. His work is primarily landscape and noted for harmony of color. He lived in Richmond from 1880-1910 and painted with other Richmond School artists, John Elwood Bundy and Charles Connors.

He was Director of the Richmond Art Association, forerunner of the museum and an active exhibitor in galleries in the East. Later he moved to Redondo Beach, California, while he continued to exhibit in Cincinnati and Richmond. The museum has 11 works by the artist in its collection. A retrospective of his works was held at the museum in 1986.
