RAM would like everyone to know about a great photography project undertaken by the LOGOS students at Test Middle School.  Students are going out into our communities in Wayne County and taking photographs of historic sites and buildings to promote the uniqueness of the architecture in our region.  These photographs will be place on display alongside paintings by John A. Seaford, a Richmond Group artist whose main subject was architecture!  Juxtaposing historical images with contemporary images taken from a student perspective gives our communities a unique access point to exploring the structures which we may use every day.  Hopefully, the exhibit will help us appreciate what we have here in Richmond and Wayne County!

With this project, we aim to make people in the area more aware of the historical locations near them and of the ways in which they can help preserve their history.  To promulgate the idea that the legacy of a community is more than simply governance, industry and procreation; these are three essential components, but only in conjunction with the lasting impressions of the environment, atmosphere and quality of life that exists in the form of the familiar structures in which a community lives, works and plays.  Funding for this project is provided by the Wayne County Indiana Foundation.

Brookville through the Artist's Eye

October 16th - November 13th 2009

Monday - Friday 8:30am - 4:00pm

Each year, artists gather in Brookville to paint the beautiful landscapes, open spaces, and quaint homes in an event   called the Brookville Paint Out.  As a supplement and inspiration to this annual gathering of artists, the Richmond Art  Museum has produced an exhibit of historical paintings of Brookville by Hoosier Group Artists including J. Ottis Adams and T.C. Steele which will be hung in the Franklin County Courthouse.  The exhibition will provide interesting insights into Brookville’s past, and telling images that leave little though as to why many artists chose to paint Brookville and the surrounding area.

Bringing the art of past and present together, an unveiling of four paintings by Dan Woodson which will be permanently housed in the Franklin County Courthouse will also take place on Friday, October 16th during the opening reception.
